Accessibility
At SHK Games, we're a small team with big dreams and want to create experiences where players feel welcome, respected, and valued. As a dedicated indie game studio, we understand that our strength lies not just in the games we create, but in the community of gamers that join us along our journey.
Accessibility in all our games
We understand that accessibility challenges vary widely, and we're dedicated to hearing from gamers from all backgrounds and learn about how we can expand our accessibility. From control sensitivity settings and adjustable background colours, we're committed to making our games as accessible as possible.
Control / Motor
ZenTower is designed to be a casual relaxing experience on mobile devices that can be played with either one or two hands.
A number of control sensitivity options exist to allow players to adjust the feel of how they move around in the game.
Some minigames have difficulty settings, such as the Fishing minigame. However, in general, while we currently do not have adjustable changing difficulty, we design our games such that precise timing is not integral to the core gameplay. We feel this is a good balance such that all players can find something that they enjoy.
Cognitive
ZenTower begins with a step-by-step interactive tutorial which takes the player through the basics of how to play the game. The tutorial has large text and is written in simple, plain language.
Throughout the game tooltips and references to resources contain iconography / symbols which helps players better understand the message being conveyed.
The game also features a ‘Background Focus’ option which allows players to adjust whether they prefer a lighter, darker, or dynamic background. This muted background helps improve visual clarity for when focusing on activities and tower building.
Visual
When deciding colours and animations for our games, we have been conscious to avoid flashing lights and low contrast colours.
We’ve tried to implement smooth colour and movement transitions when switching contexts, such as smooth, non-snapping camera movements for when navigating your tower, and fading in and out of black when entering some minigames for a more pleasant visual experience.
Audio
The game does not feature any spoken audio. Some in-game sound effects with gameplay implications have accompanying visual cues.
